ABBEVILLE, La. (999 KTDY) - The city of Abbeville has announced via press release that they, in collaboration with the Vermilion Economic Development Alliance have worked to secure a deal with Amazon.

The facility will have both part-time and full-time employees when the facility opens in 2024.

According to Abbeville officials, Amazon will be bringing one of its last-mile facilities to the city of Abbeville. Mayor Rosalyn White says that the addition of the Amazon delivery facility to their city will bring jobs with it both during construction and once the facility is completed.

White added,

We are happy to welcome Amazon to our community and witness the positive impact this investment will have on our local economy. We look forward to a fruitful partnership with Amazon as we continue to foster economic growth and opportunity for our residents.

The city's transportation infrastructure and skilled employee pool are two reasons why the company decided to locate in Abbeville. The location is also central to the needs of the company to get its products shipped to customers.

Officials plan to release more information about the various jobs that will need to be filled at a later time.

In Carencro, their city has a fulfillment center for Amazon. In that type of facility, they put together and package the things that a customer has ordered so then they can be sent along on the final process. The last-mile center slated to come to Abbeville will be the last place items will stop before they are taken to their final destination, the customer.

At this time there is no official word from the company on how many positions will be available at the new facility. But, if you are interested in jobs with Amazon, you can click here.

We are pleased to see Vermilion Parish becoming an attractive location for outside business investment, with this announcement of the new Amazon last-mile facility being a prime example. The diligent efforts of VEDA ad our collaborative partners have played a significant role in creating an environment that appeals to major companies. We are excited about the future prospects for Vermilion Parish and the positive impact it will have on our region.

The facility will be located at 3221 Veterans Memorial Boulevard. You likely could remember this address as it is the old Fruit of the Loom facility.
