(Lafayette, Louisiana) - If you have a debit card- and who doesn't these days- chances are you've walked up to an ATM to get cash, and you may have even had to pay a fee to use the machine.

Some ATMs charge you a few bucks, while others may charge you a higher fee to use it, and now the fee you paid is the center of a $167 million settlement.

According to a report, Visa and Mastercard were accused of restricting how independent ATMs set access fees, which in turn meant higher costs for ATM users.

Independent ATM machines are often found in hotels, at gas stations, and other businesses

While the credit card companies deny the accusations, they have agreed to a huge cash settlement for those who charged an ATM fee.

If you withdrew cash between October 2007 and mid-August, you may be eligible to receive a payment as a result of the settlement.

So, if you used a machine you think overcharged you when withdrawing cash from your account, you can file a claim HERE, but you only have until February 10, 2027.

ATMs are everywhere these days, and we often don't use them at a bank, which is where you may qualify for a payout from the credit card services.

I know I have used ATMs at gas stations and even in hotels, and like you, I used the available machines for convenience. And now that I think about it, I do recall being shocked by the amount I was charged to withdraw cash.

On a side note, I'll never forget the night that friends and I were in New Orleans on Bourbon Street when I went up to an ATM to get cash, and there was NO fee to use the machine. I don't know if it was an error, but my friends, who didn't need cash at the time, still used the machine just to say they did because no fee was charged.

Enough of that; let's enter the information they need to see if we qualify for a cash payout.
