Weather Model Hints Snow Possibility For Southern Louisiana
(Lafayette, Louisiana) - Winter seems to have finally arrived in Louisiana, and a few weather models show the possibility of snow in the region by the end of this weekend.
Last year at this time, much of the Gulf coast was buried in snow after a blizzard dropped up to a foot of snow across the region, and now more snow could be on the way to start the New Year.
Will we see a repeat of last year? No, but we could see snowflakes and some small accumulations in parts of Louisiana if some weather models remain as is. Now, let me just put this disclaimer out there: weather models often change, and that could happen here, and we may not see a flake.
However, as of this writing, some weather models are calling for snow in the region, and several meteorologists along the Gulf Coast are raising the possibility of snow. And if you love winter, you should love the news they're sharing.
According to two popular weather models, here's the forecast (For Now):
The GFS is showing 1″ to 2″ inches of snow in eastern Acadiana, with higher totals in eastern Louisiana and beyond. The European Model indicates dry conditions with no snow in the region. Which will be correct, or will they reach an agreement soon? Well, we will have to wait and see.
But for now, here's a look at some of the forecasts as we approach a very cold weekend in Acadiana.
We will continue to monitor the possibility of snow in Louisiana over the weekend, and conditions may change. Make sure you have this station's mobile app on your phone for the latest weather updates.
Since the original post was written, we have the latest models out, and this isn't the news Snow-Lovers will want to hear. It appears the chances of snow are diminishing. Still, we will watch the models as we get closer to the weekend.
Will the moisture reach us, and will the air be cold enough for us to see some wintery precipiation/? As they say in the business, "Stand-By."
While thinking about snow, wasn't it beautiful last January when we received nearly a foot of snow in Acadiana? Here are a few photos from last January.
