If you drive in Acadiana and stop at intersections with traffic signals, chances are you've experienced what some say needs to stop.

Look, I know that we are all in a rush these days, but what some drivers are doing in Acadiana at intersections is not only rude, but could be putting some in danger when it's their turn to proceed through the intersection.

How often have you been sitting at an intersection where the light is red and the SECOND it turns green, a driver behind you honks the horn for you to proceed through the intersection?

Well, it happens to me a lot in Lafayette, and I am here to say that I am not proceeding through any intersection in this city the second the light turns green for me. Even though the Lafayette Police Department targeted those who run through intersections when the light is red, it still has not deterred some drivers from obeying traffic signals.

Let me get personal here, I have made it a habit to NOT go right away when the light turns green at an intersection out of fear that someone may hit me as they drive through an intersection when they should have stopped. Yes, I am the one who looks both ways twice before proceeding through any intersection in Lafayette.

So, you can continue to honk your horn, but I am proceeding with caution, and you should too. Honking at someone who doesn't take off the second the light turns green is rude, and you'd feel terrible if the person you're honking at is hit by someone who ignored the red light on their end of the intersection.

The two or three seconds it takes for someone to go when it's their turn to drive through the intersection will not delay you, so let's stop the honking and drive safely when proceeding through intersections in Acadiana.

I hope you consider sharing this traffic reminder with others on social media, as I'd hate for someone to get hurt while being forced to go through an intersection when they should have taken their time to move forward.
