Kids are still enjoying their holiday break and for many, as soon as school dismissed before the long break they threw their school bags to the ground and never looked back.

One of the most exciting times of the school year when we were in school was the week leading into the holiday break and the new year.

Once we were dismissed on the day leading into the break, there was no thought of school, nor did we even worry about what was in our school bag.

In recent years I've noticed that more students are bringing their lunch to school, which leads us to what parents should do before their kids (s) return to the classroom. On the last day of school, before the long break, kids put their bags down and never looked back, and that's where parents need to be concerned.

If your child brings his or her lunch to school, chances are the leftovers could still be in their lunchbox. If you didn't remove the leftover food before the holiday break, chances are it is still sitting in your child's bookbag, and there could be things growing in the lunchbox that you don't want your child to touch or eat.

As a reminder to all parents, it is probably a great idea to inspect your children's lunchbox before they return to school, as you do not want to have to deal with this mess on the morning they return to school after the long break.

It won't be easy to get your kids back to school in the days ahead, so if you can eliminate any distractions now, it would be a great idea.

Happy New Year and we certainly hope that you are not dealing with a biohazard situation upon inspecting your child's lunchbox in the days ahead.

And if you suspect that your kid has leftovers in it, you may want to grab any leftover COVID masks you have in your house. Who knows what could be in there days later?
