Louisiana Parents Putting Kids at Risk in Vehicles
One of the most important responsibilities as a parent or guardian is to safely secure kids upon entering a vehicle and some are not.
In recent weeks I have noticed that some parents or guardians are not securing their kids in their vehicles while traveling and the last thing anyone wants is for a kid(s) to get injured in an accident.
While it may be a task at times to properly buckle your kids up in your car or truck, it can save their lives and/or prevent serious injury if you're involved in an accident.
For whatever reason, many parents on the roads these days, specifically in Lafayette, are neglecting to properly secure their kids in car seats, booster seats, or seatbelts.
Just this week I saw one kid climbing over a seat while its mother was driving down a busy road, and then I witnessed a mom leaving a gas station while holding a newborn baby in her arms as she drove away.
This post is to not shame parents, but more to remind parents of the importance of properly restraining their kids while on the roads. With so many distracted drivers on the roads these days, the last thing we want to report on is a kid, or anyone for that matter, being injured or killed in an accident.
For parents who don't know how to properly fasten their kids in car seats or boosters, you can always ask for assistance via State Police or any other police agency. Many agencies in Louisiana often participate in safety drives to show parents or guardians how to properly fasten their kids in a vehicle.
According to Louisiana State Police, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children and many could have been prevented if kids were properly secure in safety seats.
For those with kids, Louisiana State Police have these guidelines posted on their website on how to safely fasten your kids in your vehicle.
Here are a few quick tutorials on how to properly install a child's car seat in a vehicle.
