A dog who was most likely hit by a car lay on the side of Chicot Park Road in Ville Platte for three days before the operators of an animal rescue group were alerted he was there according to KADN.

The little dog, now named Dr. Danny, was picked up on the side of the road by Bre and Matthew Baker who run the 501C3 nonprofit group Heroes Everyday Animal Rescuer. They believe the dog was likely hit by a car and that's how it got a broken kneecap.

The Bakers took him to a vet to get the help he needed, and he was named after the doctor who gave him treatment. After Matthew called the Humane Society of Louisiana, they agreed to help cover the costs of the dog's treatment.

A GoFundMe account has also been set up for the Humane Society of Louisiana's Executive Director and Founder Jeff Dorson. Dr. Danny is a terrier mix, and volunteers are hoping to raise enough money to cover the costs of his care.

Evangeline Parish, like so many other parishes, is dealing with a major issue. People are surrendering and abandoning their pets because they can't afford to pay for their car.

Dorson had the following to say,

Evangeline Parish is experiencing a pet overpopulation crisis that will only worsen. We urge parish and state officials to work together to secure funds from local, state, and federal sources to build a facility, however modest.

Dorson says the parish needs to build more holding facilities for strays.

In the recent legislation session, Dorson and his group were pivotal in getting passage of a bill that allows the creation of a commemorative stamps program with the proceeds going to the Humane Society of Louisiana for the care of animals across the state of Louisiana.
