Louisiana Shelters Need Help During Upcoming Cold Crisis
Louisiana shelters are gearing up to help those experiencing homelessness and hunger as some strong Arctic air will visit Louisiana early next week, and we could experience precipitation associated with the system.
With precipitation possible and lows in the 20s for people without shelter and those in rural areas who may not be able to access food, several local agencies will be working to help fill in those gaps.
Ben Broussard with Catholic Charities of Acadiana tells us they will be working to help those in need during the hard freeze and snow.
Broussard says the upcoming cold crisis will mean that shelters will require different items to help the people seeking a warm place to stay.
Broussard says that there is a way that you can help if you are so inclined.
The group is activating its freeze plan within all of its sheltering programs that offer a place for people who are experiencing homelessness and they will also be partnering with Lafayette Consolidated Government.
If you can afford to make a monetary donation and are interested in doing so, click here to give to Catholic Charities of Acadiana.
The cold temperatures mean that more people who typically might not seek assistance will likely do so. St. Joseph's Diner and the shelter will be open during the day to help anyone who needs it.
If you are not able to get out and donate, but you would like to provide some of the items above, you can check out their Amazon account and purchase items that will be sent to the shelter.
