Hurricane hunters once again flew into Hurricane Milton as it headed towards Florida as a dangerous Category 5 storm.

Researchers with NOAA went aboard "Miss Piggy" to collect data as the storm churned in the Gulf of Mexico and ass you'll see here, it was a bumpy ride for those aboard the huge plane.

The data collected in missions like this is shared with meteorologists so that they can have a better understanding of what is going on inside the storm and it always fascinates me how much science is involved in missions like this.

It also fascinates me that the conditions can go from terrible to great as the plane navigates through the storm and then in the eye of the storm, where conditions are most calm.

I spoke to a meteorologist who once rode aboard "Miss Piggy" to collect data from a storm and she told me that she would never do that again. While it was always a dream of hers to fly through a storm to collect data, she said after experiencing such a rough journey she'd never do it again, and yes, she said she got very sick while aboard the plane.

Hurricane Milton is expected to weaken some before making landfall late Wednesday, but it will still be catastrophic for those along the west coast of Florida.

In the days ahead, we will let you know what you can do here in Acadiana to assist those in Florida. Until then, let's keep the people in Florida in our thoughts and prayers.

Here's a look at the crew from NOAA as they fly through this massive storm over the gulf.

Here's what the interstates look like as millions flee Hurricane Milton in the Tampa Bay area of Florida.

For those staying to ride out the storm in Tampa, the mayor had these words for those staying put, and her words are frightening.
