Louisiana Mom Has Son Write Apology Letter to Sheriff’s Department
(KTDY) - A young boy in Louisiana was instructed by his mother to write an apology letter to the Sheriff's Department, and they forgave him for what he did.
As kids, we all make mistakes, but it's what we learn from those mistakes that makes us better people.
A 6-year-old boy learned that you can't go through with every dare someone makes, and that dialing 911 is no joke. The kid was dared by someone to dial 911, and when he did, authorities showed up.
According to a social media post by St. Tammany Parish's Dept, the young boy in Mandeville, Louisiana, called 911 and hung up, but that didn't stop them from responding. Well, as you may expect, the young boy's mother was not happy, and that's when the lesson came.
The day after the call, the young boy's mother had him write an apology letter to the agency, which they hand-delivered to one of the districts, where Deputy Jude St. Clair and Deputy Ramon Chavez of our 2nd District accepted it.
The Sheriff's Dept. says that the young boy's mom was embarrassed that her son called 911, but the lesson learned was that it's okay to call 911 when someone is hurt, but you should never call the number as a joke.
Having learned that lesson, the young boy went home with a few goodies from the police agency, including a patch, some STPSO goodies, and a much better understanding of how serious 911 really is.
Much like the Sheriff's Dept., we too applaud this mom for doing the right thing. She used her son's mishap to turn it into an important lesson and, most importantly, she had her son apologize. Not enough parents have their kids apologize when wrong these days, and this story and lesson reached far beyond her son.
The young boy, James, wrote that he was sorry and that he appreciated all that the deputies do. What a great story, and we salute the Sheriff's Dept. for sharing this learning lesson.
The story would end with the agency saying that they forgive James for dialing 911 when nothing was wrong.
