A man and his dog had to be rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard as Hurricane Helene approached landfall Thursday.

ABC News reports that the man was, "On a  36-foot sailboat on Thursday when the boat started taking on water, leaving the man and his canine stranded in the ocean approximately 25 miles off of Sanibel Island."

Coast Guard crews were able to reach the man and his dog after a distress call came in and the man and his dog were rescued and brought to shore.

There's no word on why the man was out in the gulf as the hurricane approached, but if we had to guess, he'll probably never subject himself to these types of conditions again.

Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 storm with 140 mph winds late Thursday night. Sadly, the images coming out of Florida are devastating and the rebuilding process will take several months in some parts of the "Sunshine State."
