(999 KTDY) - The Scott Community Fridge is now up and running thanks to Foodies of Lafayette and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to bring the project to fruition.

Why the New Scott Community Fridge Matters

Life is extremely stressful for money people in Acadiana right now, and the stress only ramps up when you aren't sure where your next meal is coming from.

Buying groceries can cause sticker shock when you get to the register or see the total on your phone. The New York Post has a story about how grocery prices have risen 33% over the last 7 years. Thousands of people in Acadiana are deeply struggling to put food on the table.

The creation of the Scott Community Fridge has been a project of love from Foodies of Lafayette, Scott Mayor Jan-Scott Richard, and tons of volunteers who want to make sure people are fed.

Drivers Are Needed for a Handful of Local Community Fridges

Seth Bigbuckworldchamp and Logic Refrigeration HVAC (Seth Randall) made the construction and installation of the structure possible. Shawn Lancos, one of the men who worked on the project, gave his time as a labor of love for the community. He even had help from his wife, Amy. So many people came together to make this happen.

This project now needs you! If you would like to volunteer as a driver to pick up food from restaurants and bring it to the fridge, you can sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/food-donations.

Rascal's Cajun Restaurant and Lagneaux's Seafood will both have food that needs volunteers to take to the fridges in Scott, Lafayette, and Abbeville. The volunteer drivers are needed now, so you can start signing up.

If you are considering taking a slot to deliver food to the two communities' fridges, when you visit the sign-up page, make sure you read the details for the shifts needed.
