A vehicle struck a state police unit that was parked on the side of a highway to alert drivers of a slowdown, and we now know what caused the driver to hit the unit.

The Louisiana State Police posted a photo of the accident that occurred on Highway 20 in the Tropp G jurisdiction. As you can see from the images below, both vehicles sustained extensive damage.

According to the social post by LSP, the driver of the vehicle that hit the police unit admitted to falling asleep at the wheel.

State Police remind drivers that if you feel tired while driving, it is best to pull over and rest before continuing your journey.

The agency said the following in their social media post, which showed the aftermath of the crash;

"Even a brief moment of inattention can lead to dangerous consequences, such as crossing a centerline, missing a curve, or colliding with a stationary vehicle—an unfortunate reality we witnessed today."

There were no serious injuries in this crash. The State Police encourages you to report dangerous drivers by dialing *577.
