1982 for Dime Worth Up to $2,000

When is a dime worth a whole lot more than ten cents?

The answer is basically, when the mint makes a mistake.

There are 4 Mints in the U.S. that produce American currency.

1. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

2. Denver, Colorado

3. San Francisco, California

4. West Point, New York

When coins are produced at these four mints, a mint mark is stamped on the coin to denote which mint it was produced at.

The mint marks are "P" for Philadelphia, "D" for Denver, "S" for San Francisco, and "W" for West Point.

So why is this particular 1982 dime from the Philadelphia Mint fetching upwards of $2,000?

You guessed it, there was an error.

From newsbreak.com -

"In 1982, something strange happened at the Philadelphia Mint.

A batch of Roosevelt dimes was released into circulation without the usual 'P' mintmark. A feature required on all Philadelphia coins since 1980."

It's estimated that roughly 150,000 of the "P-Less" or "No-P" dimes left the Philadelphia Mint before the error was caught.
