The Abbeville City Council will move forward with a new, stricter curfew for minors beginning in May of 2023.

Abbeville Curfew For Minors

On Tuesday, April 4, the Abbeville City Council unanimously approved adjusting the current curfew for minors.

According to KLFY, one of the changes made raises the age curfew from 17 to 18 and under.

The new Abbeville curfew will now be in effect Sunday through Thursday, from 8:30 p.m. until 5:00 a.m., and Friday through Saturday from 10:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m.

If caught violating curfew, parents or legal guardians will face a $50 fine for the first offense, a $75 fine for the second offense, and a $100 fine for the third offense.

Repeat offenders could face more severe punishments.

"At a judge’s discretion, repeat offenders may face community service, jail time not exceeding 60 days, or any other needed resources such as parental classes."

Councilman Francis Touchet, Jr. tells KLFY "Parents need to be held responsible for their kids, and until parents are held responsible for their kids, and we put something on parents, they’re not going to worry about that."

The new Abbeville curfew for minors will go into effect on May 1, 2023.
