Several Acadiana Businesses Close as Others Open
(KMDL-FM) - We have a lot of news in this week's edition of "As the Acadiana Business World Turns." (Okay, we just made that title up, but go with it, please.) Businesses are closing, opening, getting sold, and who knows what else.
Restaurants That Recently Closed in Acadiana
Let's start with some closures.
Over the last few days, we've learned that Schlotzsky's on Pinhook near Southpark has closed, along with Wendy's in Broussard.
The loss of Schlotzsky's hits hard for many people. It has been open since 1985 in the Village at SouthPark.
Its last day of operation was December 31, 2025.
Second Lafayette Schlotzsky's to Close in the Last Five Years
That leaves Lafayette without a Schlotzsky’s franchise. You may recall the one on Johnston Street closed back in early 2021 following the retirement of owners Ted and Cindy Nevels. That building now houses a successful Kartchner's location.

Wendy's Closes Acadiana Location
The other business that appears to be closed is the Wendy's located at 1240 Albertson Parkway in Broussard. It's in a prime location near the Evangeline Thruway, attached to a Shell gas station.
We're not exactly sure as to why the fast food restaurant closed, but we do know the location has been taken off the Wendy's website.
By the way, if you're counting at home, the United States is down to only 5839 Wendy's locations.

A New Tractor Supply Coming to Lafayette
On the flip side, Lafayette is getting another Tractor Supply. They seem to be the new Dollar General store. (Okay, we kid, but you must admit, there are quite a few now in Acadiana.)
This new location will be at 262 Ridge Road, directly across from WCC Furniture.
Over the last few years, the American chain has increased its footprint across Acadiana by adding stores in Scott, Carencro, Ville Platte, and other surrounding communities.
Longtime St. Martin Parish Store Listed for Sale
And finally, on a bit of a sad note, the owners of the legendary St. Martin Parish store, Catins Hardware & Grocery, have announced they have put the business up for sale.
The store is located at 4603 Bridge Street Highway between Breaux Bridge and Parks, and it's been open since 1944.
It appears the current owners want to give someone else the opportunity to run the business, which at one time contained a lumber yard.
What’s Next for a Local Landmark
One of the owners, Jeannette Thibodeaux, commented on a Facebook post: "Praying for a buyer that will keep the Catin name plus build a lumber yard for the community!"
We sure hope that happens. And we also wish Jeannette and the other owners the best in selling and life's next chapter.
