ALDI Buys Winn-Dixie, Including Louisiana Locations, and Harveys Supermarket

ALDI has announced that the company has entered into "definitive agreement" to acquire Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket as the ALDI brand continues its growth across the southeastern United States.

ALDI has made significant waves in the grocery industry today (8/16/23) as they announced they are acquiring the Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores.

This includes "approximately 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket locations across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi" according to prnewswire.com.

In the press release, ALDI Anthony Hucker, President and CEO says that some of the stores acquired in the sale could stay as Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket brands.

It will be on a case-by-case basis.

"ALDI will operate Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores with the same level of care and focus on quality and service, as we also evaluate which locations will convert to the ALDI format to better support the neighborhoods we'll now have the privilege of serving.

For those stores we do not convert, our intention is that these continue to operate as Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores."

ALDI is one of the fastest-growing retailers in America, currently operating eleven locations in Louisiana.

It remains to be seen which Louisiana Winn-Dixie locations will be converted to the ALDI brand.

In the announcement, ALDI CEO Anthony Hucker states "The time was right to build on our growth momentum and help residents in the Southeast save on their grocery bills."

ALDI estimates that by the end of 2023, they hope to have more than 2,400 locations across the U.S.
