Ambassador Caffery Bridge to Close Sunday, June 9, 2024
This coming weekend, motorists will need to plan ahead as one of Lafayette's busiest bridges will close for maintenance.
Ambassador Caffery Bridge
The Ambassador Caffery Bridge, which spans the Vermilion River in Lafayette, Louisiana, was completed and opened to traffic in 1987.
The bridge was built to help alleviate traffic congestion and improve connectivity in the rapidly growing area of Lafayette at that time.
The bridge is named after Ambassador Jefferson Caffery, who had a distinguished career in diplomacy, serving in various countries including Egypt, France, and Brazil. Naming the bridge after him honors his contributions and legacy.

DOTD has announced that this coming Sunday, June 9, 2024 the Ambassador Caffery Bridge will be closed for 4 hours to allow crews to perform routine bridge maintenance repairs.
The closure is weather permitting.
The scheduled closure is set to take place between the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
