MONROE, La. - The Carroll High School football season has been cut short following a postgame brawl involving players and spectators during last Friday’s game against Assumption High School.
LHSAA's Penalties for Carroll High School
The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) Sportsmanship Committee met Wednesday, Sept. 30, for roughly three hours to review the incident and hear from Carroll High School. The committee subsequently suspended Carroll’s football program for the remainder of the 2026 season, including the postseason.

All remaining games on Carroll’s schedule will be recorded as forfeits, while the LHSAA cards for the school’s varsity football coaches have been revoked for the 2026-27 school year.
The Incident: What Happened After the Carroll-Assumption Game
The penalties stem from an altercation that erupted near the end of Carroll’s 16-6 loss to Assumption in Napoleonville on Friday, September 25, 2026. According to authorities, several players had already been ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct before the game was stopped early. Officials said approximately two dozen Carroll players then moved toward spectators instead of going to the visitors’ locker room, resulting in a fight involving players and fans.

Assumption Parish deputies responded, and at least one player and one fan were reportedly subdued with Tasers and cited for disturbing the peace. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
Assumption High School's Penalties
Assumption High School also received penalties from the LHSAA. The school was fined $500 and must submit an action plan addressing procedures for home athletic events. Assumption will not host another home football game for the remainder of the season, with its remaining games being played at opponents’ home fields.
Monroe City Schools' Response
Monroe City Schools said it respects the LHSAA ruling and will work with Carroll administrators to support students affected by the early end to the season. The district also said any additional matters involving students, personnel or law enforcement will be handled through the appropriate processes.
