Destin Restaurant Popular with Louisiana Guests Damaged by Fire

A restaurant popular with Louisiana beachgoers has been severely damaged by a weekend fire. Those close to the situation say the blaze broke out at Tailfins on Harbor Drive around noon on Saturday. Smoke and flames could be seen billowing from the restaurant as fire crews made their way to the scene.

Based on reports the three-story commercial structure at 172 Harbor Drive sustained heavy damage during the blaze. When fire crews arrived on the scene the building's third floor was fully engulfed.

WEAR Television in Pensacola reported that everyone in attendance at Tailfins Restaurant in Destin escaped the blaze unharmed. There were reports of a bachelorette party that had just gotten underway inside the restaurant but the TV confirmed that all members of that party were safe and accounted for.

While there were no civilian injuries reported there were reports that several firefighters had to be treated for minor injuries. Multiple fire companies from across the Florida Panhandle responded to the blaze which was brought under control after a few hours. The investigation into what caused the fire is ongoing.

Tailfins is a popular place for locals and visitors to the Destin area. The restaurant offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner including a special dockside breakfast. They also offer Tiki Boat Tours of Destin Harbor as well as private boat parties.

Tailfins and its associated Alehouse and Oyster bar opened in 2015. The restaurant is owned by Johnny Fuller who also owns Johnny O'Quicgley's Irish Pub and Sports Grill in Crestview Florida says the restaurant is one business with three concepts. The top floor was for entertainment. The middle level was for family dining. And along the harbor level is the oyster bar.

Tailfins has been popular with locals and Louisiana guests since it opened. Here's to hoping they'll recover from this fire and setback in time to re-open during the lucrative summer beach season.
