The Consumer Product Safety Commission, in its recall advisory, mentioned that there have been 115 confirmed injury reports associated with the use of the product. At least six of those injuries involved broken bones, bruises, contusions, and lacerations. And based on available information, these injuries occurred while the product was in proper use.
The piece of equipment that has been recalled, according to Walmart and the CPSC, comes from Tzumi Electronics. No, it's not a video game or handheld gadget; it's a set of adjustable dumbbells that you might use as part of your fitness training. Here's an image of what they look like.
What Makes the Recalled Adjustable Dumbbells So Dangerous?
The issue with the product is that the weight plates can dislodge from the handle. This is where the risk of injury comes in. Not only could the falling weight plate injure your feet or toes, but the sudden imbalance of weight in your hand could cause issues for fingers, wrists, and arms as well.
There are several models of dumbbells that are included in this recall advisory. The recalled dumbbells have model number 8361 with serial numbers KK23288361 through KK23388361 and KK207608361 through KK21347836. The model number and serial number are printed on the side of the molded plastic storage tray.

The recall advisory suggests that consumers stop using the product immediately. Contact Tzumi Electronics by phone at 866-363-2237 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or by email at smartbellrecall@tzumi.com.
