(KMDL-FM) The Consumer Products Safety Commission has issued an urgent warning and recall notice for a popular cleaning product sold via the online retailer Amazon. The product, if not used properly, could cause chemical burns or even poison the user.

The issue has less to do with the actual product and more to do with how the product is labeled. Or, in this case, unlabeled. The product in question is intended to be diluted with water before use. However, because of a labeling issue, that information was not displayed on the packaging.

Recalled Product Has Major Mislabeling Issue

The recall from the Consumer Product Safety Commission is more about the lack of proper labeling, but we should emphasize that the danger to consumers is absolutely real. The recall is being made pursuant to the provisions of the Federal Hazardous Substances Act.

That Act requires product distributors and manufacturers to provide adequate labeling information and instructions for the proper use and storage of all potentially hazardous materials. The labeling should also include basic first aid information and what steps consumers should take should an accident occur.

Common Household Product Subject of Urgent Recall by CPSC

To make this recall by the CPSB even more "confusing" is the fact that the product being recalled is very common in American households. The product in question? It's vinegar. But it's not the kind of vinegar that we dye our Easter eggs in or add to hot peppers to make a sauce.

The vinegar that is being recalled by the Consumer Products Safety Commission is highly concentrated. In fact, the Joly's Brand vinegar is said to be 80% and will provide enough vinegar concentrate to mix with five gallons of water.

How Dangerous is Highly Concentrated Vinegar?

If you're unfamiliar with highly concentrated vinegar, you should know that it is used as a powerful industrial-strength cleaning agent. It's also a potent herbicide. So, this product, when used in an undiluted strength, could pose a serious threat of chemical skin irritation and eye damage.

The products with the improper labeling were sold via Amazon from May 2025 through November 2025. The cost was $23. If you have the product in your home or storage units, you are asked to stop using it.

If you'd like to get a refund or replacement product, you can contact Joly's via this email address jolysllc@gmail.com. You will need to include a photo of the recalled product in its original packaging, and the word RECALLED needs to be written on the bottle.
