ACADIANA - If you've been waiting for Louisiana to finally remember that it's supposed to be Fall, you may have something to look forward to.

October has arrived, but Mother Nature doesn't always get the memo here in South Louisiana. In Lafayette and across Acadiana, we're still dealing with the kind of temperatures that can make you wonder why your Halloween decorations are sitting outside in summer weather.

But a change is forecasted to be coming.

According to the latest forecast discussion from the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, a secondary front is expected to move through Louisiana early next week. Forecasters say the front should bring drier conditions and temperatures that are more typical for early October.

But even a noticeable drop from the 90s into something much more comfortable will probably have plenty of people around Acadiana breaking out the gumbo pots and reaching for their favorite hoodie.

A forecast showing cooler temperatures later in the month doesn't mean Summer is officially finished. October can be a bizarre weather month here, as you know. You can have a sweaty afternoon, a gorgeous evening, and a downright chilly morning all within the same week.

For folks in Lafayette, Broussard, Youngsville, Carencro, Scott, Breaux Bridge, New Iberia and the rest of Acadiana, the first real stretch of cooler weather is always something worth celebrating.

So keep an eye on that forecast. Fall weather may finally be getting closer to Acadiana, and when those temperatures start dipping toward the 50s, you'll probably hear the entire region collectively say, "Well, I guess it's gumbo season."
