Counterfeit Money Circulating In Lafayette

This past Mardi Gras in Acadiana, there were a couple of instances of float riders throwing fake, movie prop $100 to the crowds along the parade routes. At first glance, the $100 bills looked very real, but when given a second look revealed themselves to be fake.

At this point, there have been no reports of anyone attempting to use any of these movie prop bills at local businesses, but when it comes to funny money, this isn't the only problem.

When people aren't aware the money isn't real, they scramble to snatch up as much of the "free money" as they can, many times putting themselves in harm's way and in some cases it causes physical altercations.
