Louisiana Casino Announces Multi-Million Dollar Expansion
Gambling, games of chance, rolling dice, and playing cards, are all a unique part of Louisiana's colored history and past. According to historians Louisiana's first "legal casinos" were authorized for operation in the City of New Orleans back in 1823. After a brief respite to fight a Civil War gambling operations in the Big Easy resumed after 1865.
But Louisiana's modern gambling and gaming industry didn't begin to take shape until the early 1980's. That's when Governor Edwin Edwards began floating the idea of "floating casinos" across Louisiana. These "riverboat" casinos have grown into what we know as Louisiana's gambling and gaming industry today.
Not All Louisiana Casinos Are On The Water
The changes in gambling laws across Louisiana and the nation led to the creation of what is commonly known as Native American Casinos. The state of Louisiana has four federally approved casinos that are operated by recognized tribes in the state. Louisiana has 43 other state-licensed casinos too.
One of Louisiana's most popular and largest land-based casino resorts is the facility that is located near Kinder, Louisiana. You're probably familiar with Coushatta Casino Resort, that casino and resort are operated by the Coushatta Tribe and that tribe has just announced plans to make that exciting facility even larger and more customer-friendly.
Coushatta Casino Resort Announces $150 Million Expansion
The Coushatta Tribe has announced plans to increase the size of their Allen Parish footprint by some 204 new hotel rooms. The new rooms are needed according to those close to the project because "the property is at or near capacity almost every weekend".
The expansion project calls for many of the new 200-plus rooms to be suites. That means more upscale accommodations for discriminating guests. The additional rooms will bring the total number of rooms for the resort to more than 1,000.
Coushatta Casino Expansion Will Create New Jobs in Louisiana
A spokesperson for the Coushatta Tribe suggested that the new hotel expansion would have a big economic impact on the surrounding area too. The new project is forecast to create some 150 to 200 permanent jobs.
The expansion will also assist the Coushatta Tribe in its tribal outreach efforts to share their culture with the general public. The Coushatta Pow Wow held annually at the resort in Kinder is one of the largest gatherings of Native Americans from around the world.
The completion of the hotel expansion at Coushatta Casino Resort is expected to be completed in 2025. The new facilities will feature an 8-story tower complete with a grand entrance.
