Finally, a cold front has passed through Louisiana taking the heat and humidity of summer away from the cities of Shreveport, Monroe, Alexandria, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans. Yeah, the whole state should actually enjoy the "feeling of fall" this weekend.

And interspersed with the clanging of gumbo pots this weekend there will no doubt be, at least preliminary, discussions concerning "the installation and decoration of the Christmas Tree". For the vast majority of Americans the "Christmas Tree" is artificial. Yeah, According to the American Christmas Tree Association, about 77% of Americans will opt for fantastic plastic over Mother Nature's handiwork.

We're not here to judge, we're here to inform. If you are one of the 23% that prefer a live tree in your living room for Christmas we have some good news for you. Louisiana's Christmas Tree Farm industry is in much better shape this year compared to last year.

You might recall last year's drought conditions stymied many tree growers around the state and several did not offer trees or limit the trees they would harvest because of the extreme weather conditions. But this year, we've gotten plenty of rain across the state and the outlook for cutting and choosing your own Christmas Tree is quite bright indeed.

If we're being honest, the physical act of "cutting a tree" is not why so many Louisiana families opt for a choose-and-cut Christmas Tree farm. It's more of an experience. Many of the farms around the state offer not only a wide selection of groomed trees but also a holiday experience such as caroling, hayrides, hot chocolate, and the feeling of Christmas past.

The Southern Christmas Tree Association has put together a list of member tree farms in Louisiana and if you're looking to make "getting the tree" a family memory they've got a great list of places you might consider.

You can view the entire list right here.

We've included websites with directions, phone numbers, and other detailed information to plan your holiday adventure. You'll find choose and cut Christmas Tree farms in 13 different Louisiana parishes, so chances are there is one that is a short drive from your home. If we've left a farm off the list or perhaps a farm has changed its hours of operation, please let us know so we can update our information.

And if you're looking for some holiday decorating ideas, here's some of the best of the best from last year.
