Louisiana Lottery – Mega Millions Ticket Just Misses Jackpot
In places like Woodworth and Jena, it's not uncommon to find the older fellows sitting around on a Saturday afternoon listening to football on the radio and playing horseshoes. Close counts in horseshoes, you know that if you've ever kept score while playing that game. You also know that close does not count for anything when playing lottery games.
Unfortunately, one Mega Millions lottery player is waking up this morning with a bit of a bittersweet mindset. On the one hand, they won one million dollars. On the other hand, if they would have matched one more number, that one million dollars would be $250 million dollars. Such is the life of the lottery dreamer.
Tuesday night is Mega Millions night with the Louisiana Lottery. It's the only major draw game on the books for Tuesdays and if you did not see how the drawing unfolded, here's how it happened.
The estimated top prize for Tuesday, October 29, 2024, was a quarter of a billion dollars. You have probably figured out that no single ticket sold across the Mega Millions footprint matched all the numbers needed to claim that prize.
You have probably also deduced that one ticket earned Match 5 Million money. And you'd be right in that assumption. Our sources at Mega Millions have confirmed that a ticket sold in Florida missed the $250 million jackpot by just one number. The ticket matched all five of the white balls but did not make a match on the Mega Ball.
Our sources at the Louisiana Lottery have confirmed the Florida Match 5 Million ticket as well. And, they have also informed us of how Louisiana tickets faired in last night's game. There were four tickets sold in the state that earned a prize of $2,000, there were six tickets that earned a prize of $600. There were three $200 winning tickets and last night's Mega Millions game produced ten $500 winners in Louisiana.
Fascinating fact about the Louisiana Lottery and the Mega Millions game, there has never been a jackpot winner for Mega Millions sold in Louisiana. We have had a few Powerball jackpot winners but so far no one in The Boot has managed to win the big money in the "other" multi-state lottery game.
Tonight there will be a Powerball drawing. The estimated annuitized jackpot in that drawing is $39 million. The lump sum payout is estimated to be $18.6 million. There will also be drawings in Lotto which got a jackpot winner over the weekend for $675,000. And there will be a drawing for Easy 5. The Easy 5 jackpot is listed at $120,000.
