
Louisiana Bill Moves Forward to Name New Bridge After President Trump
BATON ROUGE, La. (KMDL-FM) - Louisiana law makers have moved a bill forward to name a new Mississippi River bridge after President Donald Trump. Currently there are three different plans for the location of where the new bridge could be constructed.

According to WAFB.com, Louisiana House Bill 221 passed through the full House by a vote of 68 to 26 this past Monday (3/23/26). House Bill 221 aims to name the new Mississippi River bridge "The President Donald J. Trump Expressway".

The bill now makes it way to the Louisiana Senate for debate.

Louisiana State Rep. Michael Echols, a Republican, said the intent behind the bill is to get the attention and support of the federal government. As a result, lawmakers hope to receive federal funding for the project and eliminate the need for a toll on the bridge.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development reports that $400 million has already been invested in building the new Mississippi River bridge.

Where Will The New Mississippi River Bridge Be Built?
As of now, the exact location of the new Mississippi River bridge has yet to be determined, but lawmakers say they hope to determine the location by the of end 2026. Currently, there are three possible locations for construction.

PLAN 1: Crosses river between LA 1 just south of Plaquemine near Old Evergreen Road and LA 30 just south of the EBR/Iberville Parish line.
PLAN 2: Crosses river between LA 1 near the Shintech main access road and LA 30 just south of the EBR/Iberville Parish line.
PLAN 3: Crosses river between LA 1 near the Shintech Plant main access road and LA 30 at Gordon Simon LeBlanc Drive.
