
Tickfaw Woman Arrested After Allegedly Abandoning 8-Year-Old at Ponchatoula Laundromat
TICKFAW, La. (KMDL-FM) - A 43-year-old woman from Tickfaw, Louisiana was taken into custody after police say she left her young child unattended at a Ponchatoula laundromat on March 1, 2026.
Child Abandoned At Louisiana Laundrymat
Authorities with the Ponchatoula Police Department were called to a laundromat around 2:07 p.m. Sunday after a witness reported seeing a woman drive away, leaving her 8-year-old child alone inside the business. Police say the woman’s vehicle departed the scene before officers arrived.

According to fox8live.com, the child was unharmed and was later released into the care of a family member who picked them up from the police department.

Multiple Alleged Abandonment Attempts
During the investigation, detectives learned the laundromat incident was actually Jeanette Edmonds' third attempt at abandoning the child that day.

During the investigation, detectives obtained information that Edmonds had made two prior failed attempts to abandon her 8-year-old son earlier that same day. The first alleged attempt was at a local cemetery and the second was at a nearby farm.

Arrest and Charges
With help from other law enforcement agencies, Edmonds was located in Harvey, Louisiana. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office took her into custody and brought her back to Ponchatoula for processing.
Edmonds was booked on multiple charges, including cruelty to juveniles, child desertion, and criminal abandonment.
