Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser Pardons Crawfish in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana

Louisiana Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser was in Breaux Bridge yesterday for his annual pardoning of a crawfish.

Yes, we are just different in Louisiana.

Nungesser and local dignitaries gathered on the banks of the Bayou Teche near St. Bernard Catholic School to pardon Sherbin the Crawfish.

The lucky crawfish is named after longtime Henderson Mayor Sherbin Collette. This is the eighth year Nungesser has pardoned a crawfish since the tradition began in 2017.

We'll leave out any anecdotal comments about the scarcity of crawfish right now and let our dear Lt. Gov. have his time in the spotlight. (Insert laughing face here.)

“This is the biggest honor for me in the 20 years as mayor. Thank you for naming this crawfish Sherbin. I am very grateful for the pardoning and the release of my namesake, Sherbin the Crawfish,” Henderson Mayor Sherbin Collette said at the event.

Collette has been the mayor of Henderson since 2004 and before that, was on the Henderson City Council from 2000 to 2004.

Sherbin the Crawfish was later released in Lake Fausse Point State Park in St. Martinville where he will live out the rest of his days. (Or be caught and eaten by a real Cajun that knows its value.)
