Major Retailer Plans to Open 150 New Stores, Any in Louisiana?
All across Louisiana from Grand Isle to Lake Charles and Shreveport to Tallulah there have been reports of retail businesses closing their doors. Many retailers such as Dollar General have announced plans to shutter locations in smaller communities. That could certainly impact shopping habits in those cities and towns.
Elsewhere there have been reported closings that affect mall shoppers in New Orleans, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, Shreveport, and any city that has a location of Forever 21. That brand has announced plans to shutter all of its stores before the first of May.
But the news in the world of retail isn't all bad. We've learned that one major retailer with locations across Louisiana has announced plans to grow its footprint across the nation. The chain ended 2024 with some 1,771 locations in 44 states. The brand currently operates stores in Bossier City, Lafayette, New Orleans, New Iberia as well as 16 other municipalities in the state.
And based on what the principles of the super trendy discount chain Five Below have announced you can expect there to be another 150 new stores open for business by the end of 2025. In a statement to the media Five Below CEO Winnie Park suggested the opportunity was right for the brand to expand and deliver amazing value across the country.
If you're not familiar with the Five Below model, think of the old "Five and Dime" model of the 60s and 70s. Except where once there were nickels and dimes, there are now one-dollar bills and five-dollar bills. You see Five Below bases a lot of their business on price points of one dollar to five dollars.
The chain has not released specific location details where the new locations will be installed but according to reports, the plan is to have about one-third or fifty new stores up and running by the end of March. We will update our information as new store locations are made available.
