If You See a Paw Print Sticker on Your Mailbox in Louisiana, Leave It Alone
Living in Louisiana comes with its own set of good and bad, joys and challenges. Now, receiving mail might not exactly be on the top of the list, but it's something we all look forward to.
That's why when our mail carriers do a little something to make our lives easier, we can't help but be grateful.
USPS Paw Program
One of those things that mail carriers do is the United States Postal Service Paw Program. It's a simple program designed to keep our mail carriers safe from aggressive dogs.

While Louisiana isn't in the top few states in terms of dog attacks on postal workers, it is still a very real danger that our mail carriers face every day.
Bright Paw Print Stickers
The Paw Program is simple. USPS puts bright orange and yellow paw print stickers on mailboxes of not only the house a dog lives at but the house before a dog as well.
This gives the mail carrier a heads-up to be careful when approaching either the house before you or your house specifically.
Program Explained Ahead of Time
If you get one of these stickers, you'll also get a postcard explaining the program, so you'll understand what's going on. This helps to spread awareness and encourage everyone to be a part of keeping our mail carriers safe.
Success of the USPS Paw Program
The program has been very successful since first being launched in 2021 when it is used along with "local alerts as postal employees approach the house and written notification cards within the mail."
So, if you find a colorful paw print on your mailbox, leave it there. It's not just a sticker but a symbol of a community coming together to help keep each other safe.
