Louisiana Travel Alert – 160 Weekly Flights Going Away
(KMDL-FM) Louisiana travellers got some not-so-good travel news over the weekend. No, it wasn't another travel ban to a popular cruise destination. Instead, this time, the travel news was not good regarding air travel. No, this is in addition to the longer-than-average wait times to get through TSA because of the partial government shutdown.

This news regarding a major shift in schedule by a popular air carrier in the state will find Louisiana travellers scrambling to find different travel options after June 4th of this year. To make matters worse, the air carrier is one that is well known in the state for offering affordable fares and a wide variety of travel options.

Which Louisiana Airports Are Affected By Airline Schedule Changes?
If your travel plans begin in Louisiana at the following airports, Shreveport, Monroe, Alexandria, Lake Charles, Baton Rouge, and Lafayette, your travel plans will not likely be affected by the airlines' "refinement" of service. That's what the airline is calling it, by the way, a refinement of service. For those of us affected in Louisiana, they could call it what it really is, a cancellation.
We should also note that if you travel to Houston to catch your airplane, the airline will be cancelling some 170 weekly flights out of the Houston Airports. What makes this even more interesting is that all of these flights are being cancelled because of a decision to no longer serve two destinations.
Southwest Airlines to Cancel Service to Two Major U.S. Airports
The leadership of Southwest Airlines has announced that as of June 4th, they will no longer be offering air service to Chicago O'Hare and Washington Dulles airports. As we've noted, there is a change of several hundred flights from New Orleans and/or Houston.
Travellers who prefer to fly on Southwest Airlines will have other options. The air carrier will still provide service to Chicago Midway Airport as well as service into BWI (Baltimore Washington) and to DCA ( Reagan National) in the Greater Washington D.C. area. So, you can still "get there from here". You just won't be able to book on Southwest for those particular airport arrivals.
The new schedule goes into effect on June 4th. Please make sure you've adjusted your travel plans accordingly.
