UL Assistant Lacy Prejean to Become Head Softball Coach at Northwestern State
The Northwestern State Lady Demons softball program is getting a new head coach, and she is a very familiar face in Acadiana.
Carencro native Lacy Prejean reportedly has been tapped to head up the NSU softball team.
Prejean has been an assistant coach for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns softball team since the Fall of 2018. However, that was her second stint in Lafayette as she was also a member of the coaching staff from 2005-07.
While the hiring isn't official, it is expected that the university will be holding a press conference sometime today to make the announcement and then Prejean will be officially introduced next week.
Prejean will take over for the well-respected Donald Pickett who resigned from his coaching position in Natchitoches last week to return home to Chattanooga, Tennessee. It's reported that he will supervise high school softball coaches in a school district, and help run the family farm.
Before coaching, the now 42-year-old Prejean was a star at Carencro High School before heading off to Tuscaloosa as a member of the Alabama Crimson Tide softball team.
The 2000 SEC Freshman of the Year was an All-SEC performer at catcher for four seasons with the Crimson Tide. She participated in two Women's College World Series while in school (2000 and 2003).
Prejean also participated in the 2002 USA Softball National Team Camp and was a member of the 2006 USA Baseball Women's National team.
Prejan earned a bachelor's degree in business (May 2003) and a master's degree in sports administration (May 2009) from Alabama.
Cajun Nation is definitely going to miss Prejean coaching first base at Lamson Park but no doubt everyone is proud of her and happy that she is getting a head coaching opportunity.
