New Orleans, LA (KPEL News) - The FBI and United States Attorney's Office continue to charge and prosecute people who participated in illegal activity on January 6, 2021 when a contingent breached the Capitol in Washington, D.C., in protest of the 2020 election results.

At least 9 Louisiana men have been charged or pleaded guilty to their actions when pro-Trump supporters stormed the building to protest the ratification of President-elect Joe Biden's Electoral College victory. Investigators have used video footage from the day of the riot to identify the suspects from Louisiana and around the country.

The men from Louisiana are identified as:

  • Matthew LeBrun of New Orleans-- He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor federal charge of entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds.
  • Vaughn Gordon of Lafayette-- He pleaded guilty to one count of parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building.
  • Cody Connell of Vivian-- Convicted, along with his cousin Daniel Adams of Texas, of civil disorder, obstruction of an official proceeding, assaulting certain officers, entering a restricted building, disorderly conduct in a restricted building, disorderly conduct in a capitol building, impeding passage through the capitol grounds and demonstrating in a Capitol building.
  • Ronald Bryan of Pollock-- He was arrested and faces felony charges of Knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, disorderly conduct in a restricted building or grounds, engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds, obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder, theft of government property, assault on a federal officer, and physical violence on capitol grounds.
  • Edward Richmond Jr of Geismar-- Arrested and charged with assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers using a dangerous weapon and inflicting bodily injury on certain officers, civil disorder, entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds, and violent entry and disorderly conduct.
  • Charles Tyler Himber of Slidell-- He faces one felony count of civil disorder and is charged with several misdemeanor offenses, including knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, disorderly or disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly or disruptive conduct in a Capitol building, parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building.
  • Colby Purkel of Covington-- He pleaded guilty to a felony charge of civil disorder.
  • Willard Purkel of Covington-- He is charged with one felony count of civil disorder and misdemeanor offenses of entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building or grounds, and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building.

The FBI in New Orleans arrested a Buras man on Thursday, 4/25, for his actions on January 6, 2021. Matthew Matulich is charged with several misdemeanor offenses: theft of government property, knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted buildings or grounds without lawful authority, disorderly conduct in a restricted building or grounds, entering or remaining in the gallery of either house of Congress, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building.

According to a statement of fact from the U.S. Attorney, Matulich was identified from video taken on that day wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat. The video goes on to show Matulich marching with other rioters through a corridor on the Senate side of the building, entering the Senate chamber, and allegedly waving the American flag. Matulich was taken into custody without incident in Venice, Louisiana.

Roughly 800 people have been charged in connection with the Capitol riot. The United States Attorney's Office is actively pursuing any information in reference to the incident and continues to update the list of suspects.
