Heartbreaking Louisiana Crash As Man Suffers Fatal Injuries
A devastating crash happened on a Louisiana roadway Tuesday, January 28, and after the two vehicles collided, a man died as a result of his injuries.
Trooper First Class Peggy Bourque, who works with the Public Affairs Section of Louisiana State Police, says they were called at around 6 o'clock that morning after a man driving a truck crossed the centerline of the roadway. When that happened, the man's vehicle sideswiped a Peterbilt 18-wheeler.
Bourque says that the 18-wheeler was westbound on the roadway while 63-year-old Alphonse Credeur of Church Point drove in the opposite direction. After the collision, Credeur, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck, suffered severe injuries and ultimately was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
A preliminary investigation was conducted, but the investigation continues into the crash to determine why Credeur's truck crossed the centerline of Louisiana Highway 98 (West Gloria Switch into Acadia Parish) near Canadian Lane.
Bourque says there was no impairment suspected by the driver of the Peterbilt; he freely submitted to a breath test, and no alcohol was detected. In addition, as is standard in a fatality case, a blood sample was taken from Credeur to be sent off for analysis by a lab. Bourque adds that the driver of the 18-wheeler was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.
When it comes to avoiding crashes, Louisiana State Police officials would like to remind drivers of the following:
Distracted, inattentive, and reckless driving continues to be a leading cause of wrecks in Louisiana.
Everyone in a vehicle must be wearing a seat belt.
Because a seat belt is designed to distribute the crash's force to stronger bones, it can save lives when worn correctly.
