A shocking hit-and-run at one of Lafayette’s busiest intersections was caught on dashcam Thursday night (Feb. 27), and now, the driver who was hit is asking the public for help in seeking answers.

Jayde Rayee shared her terrifying experience on Facebook after a small white pickup truck ran a red light at the intersection of Johnston Street and Ambassador Caffery, striking her vehicle before speeding away.

“Someone help me get this out there,” Rayee wrote. “Tonight I was hit, and the driver kept going. I’m thankful we’re alive—my car can be replaced, but had we been unalived, this person cared less and kept going.”

A Good Samaritan who happened to have a dashcam captured the entire incident. The video shows the white pickup truck weaving through traffic at high speed before approaching the red light at Johnston and Ambassador Caffery. Instead of stopping, the driver is seen swerving into the outside lane and continuing through the intersection.

Rayee’s vehicle, which had the right of way, is seen entering the intersection at that moment. The truck clips her car, causing it to spin 180 degrees. Meanwhile, the truck speeds off, continuing down Johnston Street toward the Acadiana Mall.

Gasps and concerned voices can be heard in the dashcam footage as those recording the incident couldn't believe what they were seeing.

It remains unclear whether law enforcement has identified or located the driver responsible. However, Rayee and others are urging anyone with information to come forward.

If you have any details regarding the hit-and-run, you are encouraged to contact the Lafayette Police Department or reach out to Jayde Rayee directly.
