If you're expecting something in the mail in Louisiana on Thursday, January 8, 2025, you won't receive it.

It has been announced that the United Postal Service will not run on the above date due to President Biden declaring Jan 9, 2025, a National Day of Mourning. The date is set aside to honor the late former President Jimmy Carter.

The Postal Service will not deliver mail on Jan 9th and its offices and facilities will be closed. However, "There will be “limited package delivery service on that day to ensure the organization does not experience any negative impacts to its package delivery operations.”

As you may have noticed, flags are flying at half-staff in front of post offices and other offices throughout the country to honor the former U.S. President.

The USPS will resume normal business hours and operations on Friday, January 10, 2025.

The last time a National Day of Mourning was declared was back in 2018 when President George H.W. Bush passed away.

Aside from the USPS, other government buildings and the Supreme Court will be shut down to honor the late U.S. President.

President Jimmy Carter was 100 years old.
