Louisiana State Police Investigate Heartbreaking Fatal Crash
Officials with the Louisiana State Police say a two-vehicle crash ended with the death of a 65-year-old woman whose vehicle crossed the centerline of the roadway.
Louisiana State Police Trooper Marc Gremillion with the Public Affairs Section of State Police reports Peggy J. Williams was traveling eastbound on Louisiana Highway 22 when her vehicle crossed the centerline of the roadway and struck another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction head-on.
Gremillion says during the preliminary investigation that they have yet to determine why the woman crossed the centerline, but they do know that she was not wearing a seatbelt. Williams was taken to a hospital, but she later died from her injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was also not wearing a seatbelt but only had minor injuries and did not wish for any medical treatment.
Because of the road conditions due to the weather storm, it will be considered as a possible contributing factor to the crash, which is still under investigation. While at the crash scene, Gremillion says troopers found that the other driver, Kody A. Lacour of Picayune, Mississippi, was impaired when the crash happened. He was arrested on the following charges:
- First Offense DWI
- Obstruction of a Court Order
He was then booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail.
Some safety reminders from Louisiana State Police include the following:
- Never drive when any substance impairs you.
- Always buckle up your seatbelt and have everyone in the vehicle do the same.
- Never drive when you are fatigued.
- Drivers are always asked to remove distractions when driving.
