Man Involved in Lafayette Police Chase and Violent Crash Charged in Separate Drive-By Shooting Case

Drevian Dugas, a 23-year-old resident of Gueydan, is currently facing a series of legal challenges after being involved in a law enforcement operation that led to an officer-involved shooting and a subsequent vehicle crash in Lafayette.

The incident began when Lafayette Police responded to a domestic disturbance call on the 100 block of Shady Ridge Lane. During the operation, an officer discharged his weapon as Dugas attempted to flee the scene in his vehicle. The pursuit ended when Dugas’ vehicle collided with other vehicles, resulting in injuries to multiple individuals, including a victim who was in the car with Dugas.

Dugas was subsequently arrested and has been charged with domestic abuse battery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, various weapons charges, and outstanding warrants from Vermilion Parish.

Further complicating his legal situation, new charges have been filed against Dugas relating to a drive-by shooting that occurred on March 23 in Abbeville. According to KLFY News 10, Abbeville Police Chief Mike Hardy reported that the shooting appeared to be retaliatory, connected to a previous altercation two days earlier. In this incident, Dugas and others allegedly fired at multiple individuals from a stolen vehicle, injuring one person who was holding an infant at the time.

The new charges against Dugas include one count of attempted first-degree murder, six counts of assault by drive-by shooting, and two counts of aggravated criminal property damage. Following a tip about the vehicle’s location, authorities secured a warrant and apprehended Dugas.

The ongoing investigations are being handled by the Lafayette Police for the domestic disturbance and by the State Police for the officer-involved shooting. No officers were injured in the incident. Local authorities continue to request that anyone with information regarding these cases contact them through the appropriate channels.
