North Louisiana, we need to talk about resolutions. According to WalletHub's latest report on the Best & Worst Cities for Keeping New Year’s Resolutions in 2025, Shreveport came in at a less-than-stellar #179 out of 182 cities. That’s nearly the bottom of the barrel for those keeping score at home.

Before we go too hard on Shreveport or anyone thinks this is another dig at North Louisiana, let’s look at the bigger picture. It seems like keeping resolutions is a challenge across Louisiana, with New Orleans ranking #141 and Baton Rouge at #169. Maybe it’s just our Louisiana way of life. I mean, when you’ve got Mardi Gras looming in February, how can anyone stick to a “no sweets” goal with king cakes calling your name? (I had to dodge one just to write this story!)

But here’s the kicker: Shreveport isn’t exactly the Mardi Gras capital of the state, so what gives? WalletHub’s study looked at five categories—health, finances, school and work, bad habits, and relationships—and crunched 57 data points, from gym access to income growth. While Fremont, California, topped the list as the healthiest, most financially sound city for goal-setters, Shreveport struggled across several areas.

The top resolutions for 2025 are “saving money” and “focusing on health.” Still, with factors like limited fitness opportunities and high debt levels weighing Shreveport down, residents might have an uphill climb. Combine that with the temptations of comfort food and a laid-back lifestyle, and it’s easy to see how resolutions can slip through our fingers.

But it's not all doom and gloom. Shreveport has its own charm, and maybe it’s time to lean into what makes them great. Resolutions aren’t just about strict diets or saving every penny—they’re about finding balance and joy in your life. And if we’re honest, Louisiana’s strong suit has always been *living life to the fullest*.

So, here’s to a 2025 filled with small victories, a little lagniappe of luck, and maybe a slice of king cake or two. After all, isn’t our happiness the ultimate resolution?
