Initially, investigators believed Hollins may have been robbed, but they later determined he was attacked over a parking spot. The suspect, 57-year-old Anthony Boyce, was reportedly an acquaintance of Hollins according to his niece,"“Someone was saying that he knew the guy because they always used to be around Food Town."

Authorities allege Boyce attacked Hollins before fleeing the scene in his truck. He is currently charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, though that charge may be upgraded as the investigation continues.

Family members recall Hollins as a cherished figure who was larger than life. His niece, Alma Hollins-Washington, described him as "one of a kind," adding that he was a loving father, grandfather, and a man who had lived an extraordinary life.

“You took something great from us … something that we will never get over,” Washington stated regarding her uncle’s sudden passing.

Hollins, described as an 'easygoing and friendly person,' was declared brain-dead following the attack, and his family had to make the heartbreaking decision to remove him from life support right before the holidays.
