Louisiana State Police officials were called out to investigate a head-on crash Tuesday, January 28 in which a young woman lost her life.

As the preliminary investigation unfolded, Louisiana State Police Trooper First Class Ryan Davis, who works with the Public Affairs Section of State Police, reported that two cars were driving down US Highway 80 in opposite directions when one vehicle crashed the centerline, slamming into the victim's car.

What Do State Police Officials Know About The Crash Currently?

Davis says that 22-year-old Jaylen Hall was eastbound on the roadway, and the victim, 32-year-old Brandy Cook, was westbound on the roadway. They do not know why at this point, but Hall's vehicle crossed over into the path of Cook's vehicle, killing her.

While the young woman was wearing a seat belt, Davis says the impact of the crash was so severe that the woman was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner's office.

Hall, according to State Police, was not wearing a seat belt, and he had moderate injuries. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Davis says they do not suspect impairment on Hall's part, but during a fatal crash investigation, a blood sample is taken for a routine toxicology test and analysis.

What Can You Do To Prevent A Deadly Crash?

Louisiana State Police reminds drivers to make good choices, like the following, to prevent crashes in the future:

  • Never let anything distract you while you are driving.
  • Driving while impaired by any substance is not allowed.
  • If you are fatigued, then you should not drive.
  • Every person in a vehicle in Louisiana must be wearing a seat belt.
