Two Dead After Fishing Barge Capsizes on Toledo Bend Lake in Louisiana
Another day, another tragedy in a Louisiana body of water.
The Sabine Parish Sheriff's Office reported that a boating incident occurred on Toledo Bend Lake shortly before noon today, on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.
The initial report is that a fishing barge capsized in the Pirates Cove area. There were reportedly six people on the barge at the time. Four swam to safety and two allegedly drowned.
That is all the information that has been released at this time.
Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries (LDWF) is heading up the investigation and they will release more details soon.
Sabine Parish Sheriff Deputies, LDWF Agents, North Sabine Fire District, South Sabine Fire District, and Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Deputies were involved in the recovery efforts.
This is the third drowning incident to occur in Louisiana since Saturday. A 13-year-old from Algiers drowned on a beach in Grand Isle on Saturday, May 25.
Then on Monday, Memorial Day, an Elton man drowned at Rutherford Beach in Cameron Parish.
