LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL News) - Lafayette could see temperatures in the lower 70s early next week, but only after several thunderstorms make their way through this weekend.

Threats of weekend storms were enough to force the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns softball program to change its schedule to a double-header Saturday instead of closing out their conference series against Southern Miss on Sunday.

But the possibility of storms also means the possibility of a cold front, no matter how brief, and that appears to be the case for the Acadiana area, starting on Monday. And on top of that, the weather looks great for one of the biggest festivals celebrated in Lafayette this coming week.

Rain is expected in the area on Saturday afternoon, as well as on Sunday morning and midday. According to the website WeatherBug, that front will bring high temperatures to as low as 70 degrees in Lafayette.

And while temperatures may climb quickly back up by Wednesday, they won't be bordering on the 90s, like we've seen recently.

A Beautiful Festival International de Louisiane

The forecast also looks great for this year's Festival International, which starts on Wednesday and runs through Sunday.

Temperatures will stay in the lower 80s and mostly clear until this weekend, and current forecasts say there are no chances of rain until late Sunday night.

Festival International de Louisiane is the largest international music festival in the country, and it happens right here in the heart of Acadiana.

"Festival International boasts top-notch music from around the world, gourmet food, handcrafted artworks and so much more," Festival's website boasts. "People of all ages come from near and far to experience Festival’s magic."

"Where else can you enjoy authentic Asian, Cajun or Greek food, while listening to an acclaimed African band, as beautifully costumed French stilt walkers dance by," it asks. "Come experience the world of Festival with us!"
