James Corden Addresses Trump’s Immigration Ban With Powerful ‘Late Late Show’ Opening
The long list of celebrities who oppose Donald Trump's immigration ban continues to grow.
In the clip, the British comedian and TV personality can be seen riding in a car (a la "Carpool Karaoke") on his way to the airport. Once there, he passes by a group of protestors, breezes through security, and relaxes before his boarding his flight — a stark contrast to the experience of countless refugees and immigrants currently in transit from the seven nations targeted by the president's ban.
At the end of the montage, a quiet title screen reads, "Today, James flew out of Los Angeles. So all of our shows this week have been pre-taped. Freedom of movement should be this easy for all legal immigrants. Not just the white and Christian ones."
Corden is just one of many television hosts who have spoken out against Trump's controversial executive order.
On Tuesday, Ellen DeGeneres criticized the ban by drawing a parallel between the heartwarming story of Finding Dory, which Trump reportedly screened in the White House over the weekend, and the plight of refugees and immigrants struggling to reunite with their families and communities.
"Even though Dory gets into America, she ends up separated from her family, but the other animals help Dory. Animals that don’t even need her. Animals that don’t have anything in common with her," she told her audience. "They help her, even though they’re completely different colors. Because that’s what you do when you see someone in need — you help them."
