JAY-Z Debuts Ava DuVernay-Directed ‘Family Feud’ Video [WATCH]
JAY-Z released his epic film for “Family Feud” via Tidal on Friday (Dec. 29) and much like his previous visuals, it’s gloriously epic.
The eight-minute film, directed by Ava DuVernay and featuring a score by Flying Lotus, features Hov, his wife, Beyoncé, their five-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, and half of Black Hollywood. The all-star cast includes actors Michael B. Jordan, Thandie Newton, Mindy Kaling, America Ferrera, Rashida Jones, Constance Wu, transgender activist Janet Mock, Native American actress Irene Bedard, and many others.
Set in 2444, the film takes viewers into the Afro-futuristic world where the Founding Mothers are rewriting the Constitution to make sure it focuses on family and black liberation. Power star Omari Hardwick plays the President while the Madame President is portrayed by Bedard.
“What else is there to say,” tweeted DuVernay about the film's strong female-leading cast. “I believe in our power. And I appreciate these dynamic artists who came out on a Saturday to represents all kinds of women at the table. Not a seat. ALL THE SEATS!”
We are then teleported back to 2017, where he see Hov in an ornate church walking into the confession booth. At one point, he looks into the camera and raps, “We all lose when the family feuds / A man that don’t take care of his family can’t be rich.”
Beyoncé, meanwhile, is sitting on the other side of booth, playing the priest, and listening to Hov’s revealing testimonies.
Queen Bey also went on her Instagram page and posted several behind-the-scenes photos from the visual. Peep them below.
You can also watch the "Family Feud" video exclusively on Tidal for free since they removed the paywall for the holiday season.
