The community of Carencro is preparing to bid a final farewell to Jeremi Anthony Richey, a beloved coach and passionate advocate for sports.

Funeral services have been scheduled for this upcoming Friday, July 14, to honor the life and legacy of the 32-year-old coach, who tragically passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023, in Saint Augustine, FL, surrounded by his loving family.

The funeral will take place at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church at 12:00 p.m. noon, with interment to follow at St. Peter Roman Catholic Cemetery immediately after the mass. Father Kyle White, pastor of St. Leo Catholic Church, will officiate the services at St. Peter's. The readers for the service will be Jeremi's sisters, Addison and Reagan Richey.

Born and raised in Carencro, Louisiana, Jeremi considered it his home despite spending much of his childhood in various cities around the country. He attended Carencro Catholic School and Teurlings Catholic High School, graduating in 2009. Affectionately known as "Coach Jeremi," he dedicated a majority of his adult life to coaching, fueled by his love for children and sports.

Jeremi's enthusiasm for all things sports was boundless. Whether he was coaching, participating, or cheering on players, he exuded an immense passion for athletics. In addition to his dedication to sports, Jeremi was known for his love of spending time with friends and family. He had a knack for providing undivided love and attention to each person he encountered, and his infectious smile and laughter never failed to light up a room.

Visiting hours have been scheduled for Thursday, July 13, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro. The visitation will continue on the morning of the funeral, from 8:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday, July 14. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home, led by the family.

Following the services, a celebration of Jeremi's life will be held at 4106 N. University Ave in Carencro, allowing friends, family, and the community to share cherished memories and support one another during this difficult time.

The Richey family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the medical team and staff at Flagler Hospital in Saint Augustine, FL, along with everyone who provided tireless work, care, and compassion for Jeremi and his family during his time at Crescent Beach.
