Original Story:

The Lafayette Police Department is currently investigating a serious crash in the 6900 block of Johnston Street, near Don's Automotive. Patrol officers and traffic investigators remain on scene as they work to determine what led to the collision.

Southbound Traffic Toward Maurice Is At A Standstill

The closure affects all southbound traffic leaving Lafayette toward Maurice, creating significant backups during one of the busiest travel times of the day.

Motorists planning to use Johnston Street should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes whenever possible. The closure is expected to remain in place for at least the next hour, with traffic likely to remain congested into the early evening.

The timing of the crash is expected to compound normal 5 p.m. rush hour traffic, potentially affecting travel throughout the surrounding area.
