Jon Jones Failed His UFC 214 Drug Test—Should Title Be Awarded Back to Daniel Cormier?
Dana White has confirmed that UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones failed a drug test related to his championship win, but denied a report that he has been stripped of his title.
TMZ reported that Jones tested positive for Turinabol, an anabolic steroid.
If this sounds familiar, it's because this is the second time Jones has been popped with a failed drug test, the first coming just days before he was scheduled to take on Daniel Cormier at UFC 200 back in July 2016.
Jones claimed that failed test was the result of taking an "unmarked sexual enhancement pill."
So, what is it this time?
The California State Athletic Commission released the following statement.
The California State Athletic Commission has been made aware of Jon Jones' test results and is looking into the matter. The Commission takes these matters very seriously and will take any appropriate actions necessary after a thorough review of the situation.
According to ESPN, Jones still has the right to request his "B" sample be tested as well as the right to an appeal.
It should also be noted that a lot of the bad blood between Jones and Cormier comes from the Lafayette native openly stating his suspicion of Jones being a "longtime PED user." This is a claim that Jones has vehemently denied.
Daniel is trying to paint me as a steroid user, that's his biggest ammo. He can't say anything about my actual talent or skills. Out of all the things I've done bad, the thing I despise most [is PED use] ... Steroids is something I've never done. And I don't want people chalking up a misunderstanding or a tainted supplement to me being a steroid user. It's one of the most insulting things you can do to a guy who's accomplished the things I've accomplished.
If Jones did indeed fail his drug test he may be facing "a significant ban"—one that could spell the end of his career in the UFC.
Do you think Jones used steroids, and if so, should the title be awarded back to Cormier?
